Juliann Emmons Allison is a Professor of Society, Environment & Health Equity, and Chair of the campus Sustainability Committee, which includes faculty, staff and students who advise the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor on matters related to sustainability. Emmons Allison and other faculty members of the Sustainability Committee collaborate with staff on operational sustainability issues, engage students and community members in climate and sustainability action, and take the lead in developing academic programs that support sustainability, and facilitating research related to sustainability. Their efforts were essential to UCR's phenomenal AASHE STARS performance - 92% in academics & international recognition for sustainability curriculum. During the 2024-25 academic year, the Sustainability Committee documented nearly 4,000 sustainability course offerings in the previous three years and administered UCR's first assessment of students' knowledge about sustainability. In 2025-2026, with the support of the UC Global Climate Leadership Council (GCLC), the Committee is centralizing and enhancing UCR's Living Labs program.
