Inspired by students' call for action, the university institutional commitment to campus sustainability began in June 2003, when the Board of Regents adopted green building and clean energy policy principles. The Office of Sustainability at UC Riverside is committed to creating a more sustainable campus and community through these initiatives.

Building Operations

Why our LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certifications make our buildings economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.

Clean Energy

On our way to achieving carbon neutrality we are doing everything from putting solar panels on umbrellas to powering buildings with batteries.

Why we recognize the obligation to reduce unnecessary purchasing, and spend within research needs and budgetary requirements.

How we are implementing transportation programs and strategies to reduce how commuting contributes to greenhouse gas emission as a whole.

How we strive to achieve more sustainable water systems, through water bottle refill stations, our botanic gardens and more.

Meet the teams working on our initiatives!
